This place is super popular so make sure you have a reservation before going. Super Rice is the name they have in the store front and not Yummy Rice. The most popular dish in this restaurant is probably their yellow eel rice. You must get it!! It's delicious and the portions are very generous. From the sizes I've ordered, I know that the small is $30, the medium is $45 and there is large too. Believe me when I tell you that the small one can feed a lot of people. They also served it with a big bowl of complimentary bitter melon soup. I also tried the walnut shrimp and it was good. The shrimps were very big, crunchy and coated with the delicious sweet mayo sauce. Again, make sure you have a reservation. This place is super popular despite the bad reviews. The service is not so good, but the food is amazing. Definitely going back for the yellow eel rice.
This is a go to place for family dinner. We always come here when we crave for the taste of our hometown. Yellow eels baked rice is a must!! Saucy intestines with peppers were so bomb. Lobsters were okay, I personally prefer them stir fried with scallions and gingers. Their soup is complementary and it is so good! We had the winter melon tofu with herb soup. Perfect for fall weather.
We came all the way here to try the famous Taishan eel fried rice on a hot summer day. My friend made reservation for lunch at 11:30am. The store opens at 11am, so when we arrived it's not crazily busy as other reviews mentioned. The service wasn't bad either. By the time we were done eating, the restaurant was already full and was busy with takeout orders as well. Value: everything is reasonably priced and in large portion. Four of us adults ordered (1) a small clay pot of eel fried rice, (2) lotus peanut oxtail, and (3) water spinach. We also got a big soup bowl of complimentary soup. We were very full and had a full container of oxtail leftover. Food: The eel fried rice is the stamp item and the reason why we came. Every table orders it. It tastes about the same as the one we had in Guangdong. The rice was a bit dry for my liking but I am happy with the dish overall. Lotus peanut oxtail and water spinach are good too. Wish I live closer and can visit more frequently.
For a local chinese food spot in Brooklyn, this place exceeded expectations. Its the first time I've had the garlic chicken where the chicken was not dry and tasted good. I would definitely recommend the garlic chicken and their eel fried rice (I think this is one of their specialities). The one thing I would skip is the sweet and sour pork chops since the meat was super lean and dry inside.
The food here has been better in the last few times I've been back! Huge portions but don't expect great service. We learned it the hard way but if you want good food, you'd have to sacrifice either the service or the wait at Yummy Rice. When we came at 6 pm on a weekday around Lunar New Year, there were a lot of reserved tables downstairs. The waiter had to bring us upstairs which was completely empty when we arrived. They still came upstairs to check on us which was nice. The food didn't take that long to come out because we put in our order before rush hour dinner time. How they function may be a shock the first few times you're here, but once you work around them, it's a decent experience for good food. I recommend the Five-Flavor Duck, Honey Walnut Shrimp, and Yellow Eel Clay Pot. Also note, they might not accept take-out orders when they are crazy busy!
This restaurant has great food, which is evident by the crowds and wait time most weekend nights but they are severely understaffed so expect to be patient whether you're waiting for a table or waiting for your food. I find their portion sizes to be quite generous and always leave with something for the next day. I have two favorite dishes I always order here: their house specialty, eel fried rice casserole ($58 for large, feeds 6-8 comfortably with leftovers), and their lesser-known but equally delicious egg tofu with mixed mushrooms ($20) that comes studded with beech, white button, wood ear, and king oyster mushrooms stir fried with snow peas and fried egg tofu. This vegetarian friendly stir-fry is honestly better than drugs. I could eat this every day for the rest of my life with no regrets. Yummy Rice is also known for their five spice duck which I have not tried yet, as well as their Taishan cauliflower and cured pork belly stir fry ($20) which is solid. They add some lap cheong for some fragrance and wood ear mushrooms for extra crunch and texture.
